Working in Marion County
The connection to the community. Not only does the employer support the community but the work directly does. And of course, the connection with the people along the way. Many are friends and neighbors, or even family. And if they aren’t one of those things now, they will most likely be that soon.

Living in Marion County
It’s a county that is connected. First to each other. For me I have several family members living here and also a number of people I grew up with. It creates a natural sense of community. It’s also connected to its past and does a great job celebrating that. And it’s connected to everything that comes with a larger population base in the Des Moines area.

Favorite Place to Relax
Outside at a park or around the lake if possible.

Career Opportunities
All organizations are looking for young professionals to make an impact and add value, and Marion County is no different. The community, and its number of non-profits, are also looking for the same. Being a part of non-profit leadership is a great opportunity to show and test your leadership skills, while giving back to the community. That in turn can pay dividends to your professional career.

Community Favorites
The community is rooted in rich history but continues to develop to support the changing population and needs. It’s a dynamic community in more ways than one.

Career Advice to Teens
Find a way to see the actual work being done. I had someone sit with me and decide they didn’t want to be a banker. They wanted to focus on numbers, where my job was more driven by relationships. There is no substitute for seeing the actual day to day work.

Mentor
My father

What is your wish for the Red Rock Area?
That we embrace purposeful growth while staying connected to our story. We have a great story to tell as a county, and that should be highlighted through a growth mindset, not ignored, or erased.

What is your biggest passion, and why?
Being part of transformational change and growth. That can happen with individual people around you, personally or professionally, or on a bigger scale, at the organizational and community level.
