There is strong community support in Marion County and working here has allowed me to develop lifelong connections and friends. It's so rewarding to see the impact Central College has in Marion County. It's exciting to watch Central graduates make the choice to live and work here. Seeing those students turn into neighbors and professionals who are contributing to the growth of the area is such a joy and why I love what I do.
Living in Marion County
Marion County is thriving because of the many dedicated people and businesses making positive things happen. My family and I love the variety of local events and exciting things to discover right here in the area. Watching the county's growth over the last 15 years while holding true to our values, unique history and culture has been remarkable.
Favorite Place to Relax
Exploring local shops is my favorite way to spend a day. As parents of two young boys, you can find our family enjoying all the local parks, events, libraries, and visits to eat "donuts in the window" at Vander Ploeg's Bakery. I’m also a frequent visitor to our incredible local coffee shops.
Career Opportunities
Marion County is full of incredible businesses and professionals who look forward to connecting with young professionals. I would encourage anyone to take advantage of opportunities offered through Marion County Development like Leadership Red Rock to network with other professionals while learning about the county in an engaging way.
Community Favorites
We live in rural Marion County near Lake Red Rock. After living here for so many years we can still find a new area of the lake to explore. All the events are fun to attend as well, from Tulip Time, Thursday Nights in Pella, Red Rock Balloon Festival, Merry-N County Christmas and the new Kerstmarkt. Each season brings another reason to love living and working here.
Career Advice to Teens
Dedication, creativity and hard work will take you far. Relationships are key. Be genuine, really care about people and build authentic connections. Ask to have coffee with a professional you admire. You never know where one meeting could lead.

What is your wish for the Red Rock Area?
I would love to see Marion County continue to extend resources for attracting more professionals to work and live in our communities. I hope to see our expanding businesses and those looking to fill openings continue to thrive with talented employees who will help us grow. This is a fantastic area to live, work and raise a family. Let’s encourage others to see what we see in Marion County by continuing to put energy into enriching opportunities to support our kids and working families.
What is your biggest passion, and why?
Promoting our local communities and finding ways to help build connections is something I’m very passionate about. I want my kids and the generations to come to enjoy all the opportunities we’re building now in the years ahead.
